We will be trying out two types of programming.  Scratch is a free online program that allows you to create moving objects by connecting different puzzle pieces.
Friday we will complete the intro tutorial.

Next week we will look at actually learning to type computer code.  Coding is the new thing in technology... really it's the oldest thing, but still important to know!  The coding lessons come from Khan Academy!

See the links page and go to the Scrat

6th graders in Mr. Young's Language Arts classes brought in the mobile devices and learned how to setup apps for our school ebooks on Follett, ebooks from Listen Alaska available with a public library card and a few others like BrainPOP and SkyView.   We had a great time and now our students are more connected!!!

New Middle School Tech Classes

1/31/2014

Our District Educational Technologists are working on new resources for teachers and students to be able to complete self-paced tutorials.  I just tried the Google Earth tutorials and the Google Sketchup tutorials.  Both have thorough and easy to follow videos for anyone to learn to use these great tools.

School Tube ready

1/26/2014

Just setup an account on SchoolTube for Colony Middle.  That means that students can post and view videos... after they have an account of course.

We just need to start filming!

Weebly... Another new thing!

1/21/2014

Here I go with my Q3 Enrichment class trying out Weebly as a blog for students to reflect on the learning in our Exploring the Creative Web class.

Our first project is using Google Sketchup.  I have each student go through the startup tutorials and create some new project of their own.  I am always amazed at their ideas and quick consumption of new programs!

My challenge this quarter is to learn to use Weebly as our class homepage, and for this assignment I want to figure out how to save a video of their sketchup projects to post on youtube.
